Ted was now curious to find the largest number. He asked 1, “Who is the largest number here?” 1 replied, “I don’t know, ask 2.”
Ted went to 2 who told him to ask 3. Similarly, every number asked Ted to ask the next greater number. After asking a lot of numbers he realized:
He can never find the largest number because every number tells him to ask the next greater number
Since every number tells Ted to ask the next number, Ted will never be able to find the largest number. This is because there will always be a number larger than the largest number. That’s why it is said that there are infinite natural numbers.
