Telephone is example of circuit switching.
Circuit switchingis the most familiar technique used to build a communications network. It is used for ordinary telephone calls. It allows communications equipment and circuits, to be shared among users. Each user has sole access to a circuit during network use. Circuit switching contrasts with packet switching, which divides the data to be transmitted into packets transmitted through the network independently.
Packet switchingis used to optimize the use of the channel capacity available in digital telecommunication networks, such as computer networks, and minimize the transmission latency, and to increase robustness of communication.
