Question

Tell whether the difference between the two integers is always, sometimes, or never positive:
Two positive integers

Open in App
Solution

Step 1: Difference between the two positive integers

It is given that the two integers are positive.

The difference between the given two positive integers can be either positive or negative. It depends on the larger number among the two given numbers.

In a-b, where a,b are positive numbers and a>b, Then a-b=+ve.

In a-b, where a,b are positive numbers and a<b, Then a-b=-ve.

Step 2: Understanding the above using examples

If 2,3 are two integers, then

2-3=-1[sincea<b,a-b=-ve]

3-2=1[sincea>b,a-b=+ve]

Therefore, the difference between the two positive integers is sometimes positive.
