A telomere is a region of repetitive nucleotide sequence at each end of a chromosome. It protects the end of chromosome from deterioration or from fusion with neighbouring chromosomes. Telomeres are found in eukaryotic chromosomes as the eukaryotic chromosomes are linear. During replication of DNA the DNA replication enzyme, polymerase cannot replicate the sequences present at the end of the chromosome. Telomere caps the end of the chromosome to prevent loss of the chromosome end. Telomere gets lost during DNA replication. Enzyme telomerase replenishes telomere after replication.
