Question

Temperature of a monoatomic gas is increased from T0 to 2T0 in three different processes : isochoric, isobaric and adiabatic. Heat given to the gas in these processes are Q1,Q2 and Q3 respectively. Then choose the correct option.

Solution

The correct options are
A Q1>Q3
B Q2>Q1
C Q2>Q3
D Q3=0
First law of thermodynamics gives us the relation:
q=ΔU+w
For all three cases ΔU is the same (only a function of temperature).
For isochoric w = 0;
For adiabatic w =ΔU
For isobaric w = positive.
Work done is maximum in isobaric.
i.e.
Q2>Q1>Q3
and Q3=0
Hence all four options are correct.
