$If$ $x^{2} - 9 x + 20 = (x - 4) (x - a)$ $then$ $a =$ ___

$\Rightarrow x^{2} - 9 x + 20$

$= x^{2} - 4 x - 5 x + 20$

$= x (x - 4) - 5 (x - 4)$

$= (x - 4) (x - 5)$

$∴ a = 5$
