Let a and d be the first term and the common difference of the given AP respectively. Then,
a6=19a+5d=19 ...(1)
a17=41a+16d=41 ...(2)
On subtracting (2) from (1), we get
11d=22d=2
Putting d=2 in (1), we get
a=195×2=9
Now, a40=a+39d=9+39×2=87
