Abscission zone is found at the base of petiole. The young leaves produces hormones that inhibit specialization in abscission zone. The hormonal imbalance during aging forms two different layers. The protective layer on stem side becomes impregnated with suberin. The separation layer on leaf side which weakens the connection between leaf and stem.
