Adrenocorticotropic hormone (ACTH), also called corticotropin or adrenocorticotropin is formed in the pituitary gland that regulates the activity of the outer region (cortex) of the adrenal glands. ACTH acts in those areas of the adrenal cortex in which the glucocorticoid hormone cortisol and corticosterone are formed.
