The aleurone layer in maize grain is especially rich in
Maize is a monocotyledonous, endospermic, single-seeded dry fruit called caryopsis. The grain is conical and flattened. Below the covering of the grain is present the endosperm and embryo. About 2/3rd of the grain’s interior has food storage tissue of endosperm.
It is rich in starch grains. The cells also possess fats and proteins. A protein-rich aleurone layer lies on the outside of the endosperm and immediately below the grain covering.
Auxins (plant hormones or phytohormones) are found at the growing shoot tips of the plants and are responsible for cell elongation.
