Question

The angle between force and displacement for maximum work should be

Open in App
Solution

Condition for maximum work:

  1. Work is defined as the energy transferred when an object is moved.
  2. It is the dot product of force and displacement.
  3. It is a scalar quantity.

W=F·d·cosθ

Where, W is the work done, F is the force used, d is the displacement of the object and θ is the angle between the F and d.

When cosθ=1, work is done is maximum.

cosθ=1θ=cos-1(1)θ=0°

Therefore, when the angle between force and displacement is 0°, work done is maximum.
