  • Anions are negatively charged species.
  • Thus it will be discharged on an anode ( positively charged electrode).
  • The anions that lie on the top of the electrochemical series are strong oxidizing agents.
  • So they form ions easily.
  • Since sulfate ion is on the top of electrochemical series.
  • Thus discharged with difficulty.

Hence the anion which discharges at the anode with great difficulty is sulfate ions.
