The anomalous expansion of water is a boon to which of the given habitats in cold regions?
Aquatic habitat
The anomalous behaviour of water is a boon to the aquatic habitat in cold countries when the temperature falls down. During this period the water on the surface cools down and contracts. Water being heavier sinks down and the process continues till the temperature reaches 4∘C. As the temperature decreases further the water expands and becomes lighter. Eventually the surface water gets converted into ice and floats on the surface of the water. Ice is a bad conductor of heat, acts like a blanket and protects the aquatic life from the cold air above.
