Solution

The correct option is C 8
Electrolysis of molten CaCl2
At cathode,
Ca2+(aq)+2eCa(s)
Mass of Ca =30 g
No. of moles of Ca =3040=0.75 mol
1 mole of Ca corresponds to 2 moles of electrons. Thus, 0.75 moles of Ca corresponds to,
=0.75×2=1.5 moles of electrons

1 mole of electron corresponds to 96500 coulombs of electricity. 1.5 moles of electrons will correspond to,
=96500×1.5=144750 coloumbs of electricity.
Given,
Current, I =5 A

Charge, Q =I×t

Time, t =QI

Time, t =1447505

Time, t =28950 s

Time, t =289503600=8 hr
