Let one side of the square be x cm.
Area of the square = (Side )2 cm2 = x2 cm2
It is given that the area of the square is 256 cm2.
⇒ x2 = 256
⇒ x = 256=±16
We know that the side of a square cannot be negative.
So, we will neglect −16.
Therefore, the side of the square is 16 cm.

Perimeter of the square = 4×side=4×16cm=64 cm
