Let the required side be $xcm$.
Then, area of the trapezium
$=\left[\begin{array}{c}\frac{1}{2}\times (10+x)\times 4\end{array}\right]c{m}^2=2(10+x)c{m}^2$
But the area of the trapezium $=34c{m}^2$ (given)
$\therefore 2(10+x)=34$
$\Rightarrow 10+x=17$
$\Rightarrow x=17-10=7$
Hence, the outer side $=7cm$.
