The area of a trapezium-shaped field is 1200 sq.m, the distance between two parallel sides is 10 m and one of the parallel sides measures 200 m. Find the length of the other parallel side.
40 m
Let the parallel sides of the trapezium be a and b.
One of the sides (a) = 200 m
The distance between two parallel sides = 10 m.
Area of the trapezium field = 1200 m2
Area of the trapezium=12×(Sum of the length of the parallel sides) ×(Distance between the parallel sides)
1200=12×(a+b)×10
1200 × 210=(a+b)
a+b=240
b=240–200 (Since one of the parallel sides measures 200 m.)b=40 m
Length of the other parallel side=40 m
