Question

The area of a trapezium shaped field is 600 m2, the distance between two parallel sides is 15 m and one of the parallel sides is 10 m. Find the other parallel side.

Solution

Let the parallel sides of the trapezium be 'a' and 'b'.
One of the sides is 10 m and the distance between the two parallel sides is 15 m.

The area of trapezium
=12× Sum of the length of the two parallel sides × distance between the two parallel sides

600 = 12 (a + b) × 15

600× 215 = (a + b)

a + b = 80

b = 80 – 10 = 70 m

Length of the other parallel side = 70 m
