The area of a triangle is equal to that of square of side 60cm. Find the side of a triangle whose corresponding altitude is 90cm.

Given the side of square=60cm

Step 1: Area of a square

=side×side=60×60=3600cm2

Given the area of a triangle is equal to the area of a square

so, the area of a triangle =3600cm2

Step 2: Area of a triangle

Given the altitude of a triangle =90cm

We know the area of a triangle=12×base×altitude

3600=12×base×903600=45×basebase=360045base=80cm

Hence, the side of a triangle is80cm
