The area of an equilateral triangle is 493 cm2. Taking each angular point as centre, a circle is described with radius equal to half the length of the side of the triangle. Find the area of the triangle not included in the circle. [ 4 MARKS ]

Area=493 cm2

Area of an equilateral triangle is given by 34a2

34a2=493

a2=49×4a=14 cm

Thus, radius of each circle is 7 cm

Now, Required area

=Area of ΔABC3× (Area of a sector of angle 60 in a circle of radius 7 cm)

=[4933(60360×227×72)]cm2

=[49377] cm2=[49×1.7377]cm2=7.77cm2.
