The area of cross-section of a pipe is 5.4 cm2 and water is pumped out of it at the rate of 27km/hr. Find (in litres) the volume of water which flows out of the pipe in one minute?
Rate (Speed of water flow) =27km/hr
=2700000 cm60 minutes
=45000 cm/min
Volume of water which flows out of the pipe in 1 min = Speed of water flow (in cm/min) × Area of cross-section of pipe
=45000 cm×5.4 cm2
=243000 cm3
=243000×10−3 litres [∵1 cm3=10−3 litre]
=243 litres
