Area enclosed by shape A = 8 x 1

Area enclosed by shape C = 12 x 1
= 12 sq. units
Number of squares enclosed by shape D = 7
Area enclosed by shape D = 7 x 1
= 7 sq. units

So, the shapes A and B have the same area.
