Question

The atoms or ions possessing unpaired electrons are paramagnetic in nature whereas those possessing electron pairs are diamagnetic in nature. How do you relate the magnetic behavior with electronic arrangement? Justify.

The unpaired electrons produce a magnetic moment towards a single direction. In case of diamagnetic/paired orbital magnetic moment is balanced by the other electron present in the orbital as the other electron filled will have a spin only quantum number opposite to the first one.
