Total runs scored by the batsman in his 40 innings this year =40×50=2000
Total runs if we ignore the highest and lowest scorers =40×50–(x+172+x)=1828−2x
Total runs scored in 38 innings =38×48=1824
So, 1828−2x=1824⇒x=2
Therefore, his highest score = 172+x = 172+2 = 174
Total runs scored by the batsman in his 40 innings this year =40×50=2000
