Question

The base of a parallelogram is twice its height. If the area of the parallelogram is 98 cm2, what will be its base and height?
  1. 14 cm and 7 cm
  2. 7 cm and 14 cm
  3. 8 cm and 16 cm
  4. 16 cm and 8 cm

Solution

The correct option is A 14 cm and 7 cm
Let the height of the parallelogram be'x'.
Then the base of the parallelogram will be '2x'
Also, we know, area of a parallelogram = base x height
Now, it is given that the area of the parallelogram = 98 cm2
So,  2x x x = 98
 x x x = 49
 x x x  = 7 x 7 cm
So, x = 7 cm
So, we have height = x = 7 cm and
base = 2x = 2 x 7 = 14 cm
