Basic character of oxide decreases from left to right in a period of periodic table. The decrease in basicity is due to the decrease in atomic size, increase in ionization energy and decrease in electropositive or metallic character as we move from left to right across a period.

As we move across a period, electrons are added to the same valence shell and the atomic size decreases due to the contraction of the shell with increase in the number of protons.
