Solution

Ans) (c)

The sex chromosome pair determines if a child will be a boy or a girl.
Since the mother has both X chromosomes, she can contribute either of the X's. But, the father has one X and one Y chromsome, hence his chromosome contribution plays a key role in determining the sex of the child. So, when he contributes X, which when coupled with the mother's X, forms the XX which determines the sex of the child to be a female. If the father contributes Y then, XY determines the sex of the child to be a male. So it is a wrong belief that the mother is completely responsible for the sex of the child.
