Question

The boiling point of turpentine on Fahrenheit scale is double its value on Celsius scale. If the boiling point of tar on Celsius scale is 140 more than that of turpentine on same scale, find the boiling point of tar on Kelvin scale.

Solution

We know that 9C=5(F32)
Let the temperature in Celsius scale be T and in Fahrenheit be 2T.
So 9T=5(2T32)
T=160oC
Now the boiling temperature of turpentine T1=160+140=3000C
We know for kelvin, K=273+C=273+300
In Kelvin scale it is 573K.
