Electrometallurgy is the term given to the processes of metal electrodeposition. It can be divided into four categories:

  1. Electrowinning: The extraction of metals from their ores. This is simply known as “electrolytic extraction”
  2. Electrorefining: Crude or impure metals are refined using electrolysis. Powder metallurgy is the term for manufacturing metal components from metal powder. This may or may not be classified as part Electrorefining although they are closely related.
