Let the original bus and train fares be 3$x$ and 4$x$ respectively. $\left[1mark\right]$

As the bus fare increases by 10%, the new bus fare is :
3$x$ $\times$ 1.1 = 3.3$x$ or $\frac{33x}{10}$ .......... (Since 10% increase is equivalent to multiplying the quantity by 1.1) $\left[1mark\right]$
And the train fare increases by 20%, the new fare is :
4$x$ $\times$ 1.2 = 4.8$x$ or $\frac{48x}{10}$ .......... (Since 20% increase is equivalent to multiplying the quantity by 1.2) $\left[1mark\right]$
Hence the new ratio of bus and train fares
= $\frac{33x}{10}:\frac{48x}{10}$ = 33 : 48 = 11 : 16 $\left[1mark\right]$
