The C.P of two watches taken together is Rs840. If by selling one at a profit of 16% and the other at a loss of 12%, there is no gain or loss in the whole transaction then find the C.P. of each watch.

Let the C.P of 1st watch bs Rs x.

Then C.P of 2nd watch be Rs 840x

S.P of 1st watch =116x100(16% profit)

S.P of 2nd watch =88(840x)100(12% loss)

No loss / gain.

840=116x100+88(840x)100

840×100=116x88x+840×88

84000=28x+73920

28x=8400073920

=x=1008028=360

C.P of 1st watch =Rs 360

C.P of 2nd watch =Rs (840x)

=Rs (840360)

=Rs 480
