The caecum of ruminants is large whereas it is not large in human beings. How does this difference affect the way in which food is digested in humans and ruminants?

Although caecum in ruminants is 3-feet long, but its role is more prominent in humans. In ruminants, colon is the site where water is absorbed in maximum amount. In humans, caecum stores the processed food mixture which contains a bit of water, undigested food and some minerals.
