Calvin cycle

It is a pathway in which 3- carbon acid is produced which is known as 3- phosphoglyceric acid (PGA) in carbon dioxide fixation as a first product. Hence, this pathway is considered as Calvin cycle.

It occurs in three steps:-

  • The first step is carboxylation (a reaction in which carboxylic acid is produced)
  • The second step is reduction (molecules are converted to glucose)
  • The third step is regeneration (RUBP is regenerated in this)

The Calvin cycle is light-independent.
