The car hire charges in a city comprise of a fixed charges together with the charge for the distance covered. For a journey of 12 km, the charge paid is Rs 89 and for a journey of 20 km, the charge paid is Rs 145. What will a person have to pay for travelling a distance of 30 km?
Let the fixed charge be Rs. c and the charge per km be Rs. x.
For travelling 12km, charge = 89
⇒ 89 = c + 12x ---------------(1)
For travelling 20 km, charge = 145
⇒ 145 = c + 20x -------------(2)
Solving equations 1 and 2, we get,
8x = 56
⇒ x = 7
Substituting in equation (1), we get c = 5
So, the fixed charge is Rs. 5 and the charge per km is Rs. 7.
For travelling 30 km, charge = 5+7×30 = Rs. 215
