The car hire charges in a city comprise of a fixed charges together with the charge for the distance covered. For a journey of $12km$, the charge paid is Rs. $89$ and for a journey of $20km$ the charge paid is Rs. $145$. What will a person have a pay for travelling a distance of $30km$?

Let the total charge be $y$ and fixed charge be $c$

Let charge per km be $x$

So if a person travels $zkm$, the charge is $y=c+zx$

For $12km$, charge is $Rs.89$

$89=c+12x$ ....(1)

For $20km$, charge is $Rs.145$

$145=c+20x$ ...(2)

Solving equation (1) and (2), we get,

$c=Rs.5$ and $x=Rs.7/km$

So the charge is $y=Rs.(5+7x)$

For $30km$, charge, $y=Rs.(5+7\times 30)=5+210=Rs.215$
