Solution

Let the total charge be y and fixed charge be c

Let charge per km be x

So if a person travels zkm, the charge is y=c+zx

For 12km, charge is Rs.89

89=c+12x ....(1)

For 20km, charge is Rs.145

145=c+20x ...(2)

Solving equation (1) and (2), we get,

c=Rs.5 and x=Rs.7/km

So the charge is y=Rs.(5+7x)

For 30km, charge, y=Rs.(5+7×30)=5+210=Rs.215
