The centromere is a part of
Chromosome
Centromere is the specialized area of a chromosome involved in the attachment of spindle fibres, via the kinetochore, during cell division. Depending on the position of the centromere, chromosomes are designated as metacentric, telocentric or acrocentric. This variation in centromere position also leads to the variation in chromosome shape at anaphase, appearing as V shape, J shape, i-shaped or L-shaped.
