Plaster of Paris is a common mineral present in rocks. It is prepared by heating gypsum (chemically calcium sulphate dihydrate) at 373K. At this temperature gypsum loses it’s water molecules forming Plaster of Paris (calcium sulphate hemihydrates). It’s chemical formula is CaSO4.12H2O.
