1. The Chola rulers dug wells and excavated tanks to provide water for irrigation.
2. They built stone dams and enbankments across the Kaveri and other rivers to create reservoirs of water.
3. They had channels cut across the kingdom to distribute water from rivers and reservoirs.
4. King Rajendra Chola I built a large artificial lake near his capital.
