The circumference of the base of a cylinder is 88cm and its height is 15cm. Find its curved surface area and total surface area.

Height of the cylinder(h)=15cm
Circumference of the base =88cm
Let r be the radius of the base, the circumference= $2\pi r$
$\therefore 2\pi r=88cm$ ....(i)
$\Rightarrow 2\times \frac{22}{7}r=88\Rightarrow r=\frac{88\times 7}{2\times 22}=14cm$
$\therefore r=14cm$
(i) Curved surface area = $2\pi rh$
$=88\times 15c{m}^2$ [from (i)]
$=1320c{m}^2$
(ii) Total surface area= $2\pi r(r+h)$
$=88(14+15)$ [from(ii)]
$=88\times 29=2552c{m}^2$
