The coefficient of performance of a carnot refrigerator is $5 / 3$ . If refrigerator operating at a intake temperature $- 23^{\circ} C$ then what will be the exhaust temperature?

Solution

Given : $T_{L} = - 23^{o} C = 273 - 23 = 250 K$ $β = \frac{5}{3}$
Coefficient of performance $β = \frac{T_{L}}{T_{H} - T_{L}}$
$∴$ $\frac{5}{3} = \frac{250}{T_{H} - 250}$
$⟹ T_{H} = 400 K = 400 - 273 = 127^{o} C$
