The coiling of chromonema in prophase of mitosis is plectonemic. Plectonemic means the double strands of the DNA are coiled together to form the supercoils. DNA supercoiling help in the DNA packaging within the nucleus of the cells because the length of DNA is more longer and cannot fit within the cell.
