Question

The combustion chamber of a bike has an area of cross-section 16cm2. A pressure of 400Pa acts on it. Find the force exerted on the bike.

Open in App
Solution

Step 1: Given that

The combustion chamber cross-section area of the bike (A)=16cm2⇒16×10-4m

Pressure applied on bike (P)=400Pa

Step 2: The relation between pressure, normal force, and area are:

Pressure=normalforce(thrust)area

Step 3: We have to calculate normal force (thrust) by applying the formula from step 2

Now, the normal force (thrust) applied by man will be:

normalforce(thrust)=Pressure×Area

normalforce(thrust)=400Pa×16×10-4m

By solving it we get

normalforce(thrust)0.64N

Hence, the force exerted on the bike will be: 0.64N
