Pectins are the mucopolysaccharides that occur in the cell wall of plant cells like the collenchyma cells. Pectic acid is a polymer of 1,4 D-galacturonic acid. Calcium pectate and some magnesium pectate is a major constituent of middle lamella. Pectic cell wall polysaccharides owe their high negative charge to the presence of D-galacturonate.
