Question

The concentration of salt in sea water is 3.5%(m/v).what mass of sea water can be evapourated to get 100kg of salt

Open in App
Solution

Dear student,
3.5% m/v means every 100 ml pf sea water has 3.5 g of salt.
As density of water is 1g/ml.
Therefore 100 ml of water = 100g of water
Now
3.5 g salt is present in 100g water
1 g salt is present in 100/3.5 g water
100kg salt is present 100/3.5*100 kg water
Therefore,mass of water evaporated = 2,857.143 kg
