Solution
The governments used police and army to suppress the movement. Nearly ten thousand people were killed and over 70,000 arrested in less than five months. The military took over many towns and cities. Mobs were dispersed by lathi charge, rifle, pistol and occasionally by machine guns. Even women and children were not spared. In the end, the government succeeded in crushing the movement.
