On 23 January 1902, a group of men, women, and children under the leadership of Father Gapon marched to the Tsar’s Winter Palace in St. Petersburg. They demanded for a representative national assembly, agrarian and industrial reforms. Hundreds got killed and thousands were wounded by the Tsar’s authorities.
The events of this Bloody Sunday led to further riots and the governor-general of Moscow Grand Duke Sergei Alexandrovich was killed by a bomb.
