Solution

The correct option is C 1880 ms1
Speed of sound in a gas is given by

V=γPρ

At STP, 22.4 litres of oxygen has a mass of 32 g. Whereas, the same volume of hydrogen has a mass of 2 g.

Thus, the density of oxygen is 16 times the density of hydrogen at the same temperature and pressure.

So, ρO2ρH2=16

Since, γ is same for both the gases,

VH2VO2=ρO2ρH2=16=4

VH2=4×VO2=4×470

VH2=1880 ms1

Hence, option (C) is correct.
Why this question ?

Concept : At the same temperature and pressure, density of gas is directly proportional to molar mass of the gas.
