  • There are generally two types of glasses, one such type is soft glass and the other is hard glass.
  • Soft glass is generally known as soda-lime glass and hard glass is generally referred to as borosilicate glass.
  • The soft glass is made up of soda also known as sodium carbonate (Na2CO3), silica (silicon dioxide SiO2), and lime (calcium oxide CaO), and their chemical composition is as follows-
  • Sodium carbonate (Na2CO3) - 15%
  • Silicon dioxide( SiO2) - 70%
  • Calcium oxide( CaO) -9%
  • The general formula for soft glass is- Na2O.CaO.6SiO2
