The art and architecture from the Mauryan period are valuable treasure to Indian architecture even today. Thor contributions are:

• Megasthenes’ Indica records the grandeur of the palace at Pataliputhra, the wooden remains of which were excavated.
• Stupas were built. Among all the stupas that are found the Stupa of Sanchi is the biggest stupa.
• Several Ashoka’s pillars were found across the Mauryan empire region.The Sarnath pillar of Ashoka is of great prominence, Indian national emblem is adopted from it.
• Rock cut caves are other magnificent creations of Maurya period. Ashoka built three rock cut caves at Baarbar hill while his son Dasharatha, built three more rock cut caves at Nagaruni hills.
