Coordinates = $(a+2,a-2$) ....(i)

Since, the point $A$ lies on x-axis.

Coordinates of point A = $(x,0)$ ...(ii)

Comparing equation (i) with equation (ii) we get,

$(a-2)$ = $0$ (1 mark)

$a$ = $2$

$a^2=2^2$

$a^2=4$.

Therefore, value of $a^2$ is 4. (1 mark)
